What's New (Site Updates)

27 September 2009

Just got back from our Road Trip from Skyline Drive to the Great Smoky Mountains. Sorry, if I waited to put comments up, they'd never get posted :(

11 November 2008

Still working on the older pictures, but just put up pics from the Riverbanks Zoo, in Columbia, SC.

27 October 2008

Added Canberra and a bunch of pictures from the Alice Springs Desert Park.

25 October 2008

OMG, has it been that long? Shame on me! At any rate, I'm trying to catch up. Today I have put up our first camping trip to Redbank Gorge, our trip down the Great Ocean Road, and the photos from the Clark Jamboree.

01 October 2007

Had a wonderful week in Cairns. Pictures are now up, but still figuring out what to do with all the video I took.

04 September 2007

Put up the full lunar eclipse pictures from 28 August. Getting behind again, but put this up by special request.

18 July 2007

Put up a new page of Meep pictures, from 2005 to this weekend.

14 July 2007

Well, there's a fairly large gap in the pictures, but I did put up the Camel Cup pictures I took today.

15 June 2007

Ok, got the Desert Park photos up, from back in March 2007.

14 June 2007

Falling behind again! But finally put up the pics from my trip to the USA - Virginia, Colorado and Wyoming. I still have quite a bit of catching up to do!

12 February 2007

Had a great time in Tasmania. Usually I try to pare the pics down to 5 pages or less, but as I took over 1200 pictures, I found that impossible. Hope you think they're worth the extra time!

20 January 2007

We finally got a good bit of rain this week, so first some pictures of the Todd flowing (it'd gone down quite a bit, but still a good flow), and some pictures from our quick drive up to the Tropic of Capricorn.

13 January 2007

Woohoo, I got a new camera! This one's finally a Real Camera, a true Digital SLR - a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. It's awesome. It's a bit of a learning curve going from my Nikon to this thing, but I'm getting the hang of it. My first opportunity to really test the camera's capabilities was today, when we went to Arltunga Historical Reserve - Arltunga was gold mines back in the late 1800s.

Incidentally, I've made a New Years resolution to move and convert all the pages in the "oldsite" directory into their proper places, and with my current sitSun, 27-Sep-2009 8:38 PMry 2007

Suddenly remembered that I'd never put up the pictures we took on our great snowy Scotland adventure, days before the truck was shipped out to Australia. Well, I've corrected it now. I also noticed that the England start page didn't reflect all of the pages I've put up, so I fixed that, and also updated the Scotland and Wales start pages. Also fixed Lizzie's page, though I doubt I'll keep it up.

04 October 2006

Went to Uluru the weekend of the 23rd, to visit the rock and watch the sunset. We're also trying an experiment, I took Lizzie along for the ride, and now she's got her own page. The weekend of the 16th, we went and watched the Henley on Todd, but I forgot to add a comment here...

6 September 2006

Went down the East MacDonnell Ranges this past weekend, visiting all the sites along the way, including some 4-wheel driving at John Hayes Rockhole and N'Dhala Gorge. Stayed overnight at Ross River Resort.

22 July 2006

On a roll now! Went to Simpson's Gap and got the pictures up the same day! I'm playing with some new photo album creation software, called jalbum, please let me know what you think.

21 July 2006

Added pics from last week's Camel Cup. For the moment I've not been taking the time to add comments, since that's generally what delays getting the images up. And yea, I know my template's screwed up. Don't know what happened, but will fix it as soon as I get a chance.

09 July 2006

We've finally settled, and I've started putting up pictures again - check out some Fireworks and some pics from the Alice Springs Show.

07 March 2006

At long last, I've finally put up some new pictures - our December trip to Germany. Lots more pics to put up, and only two weeks to do it!

14 October 2005

After requesting commentary from alt.www.webmasters, I made some final changes to my new template, and published my new, shiny homepage. Hope you like it! Ireland also uses the new template, though the other pages don't, yet.

10 October 2005

Finally getting up the September Ireland Trip pictures. Trying something new, asked ThumbsPlus to create a page for each image, including original date and comments. I'm not going to apply a template to them though - I cut the 300 or so original images down to 90 pics for the website. Still a formidable number of pages to mod!

18 Sep 05

I'm working on a new look to the website, this page now gives you a preview. Hopefully, you think it's snazzy :)

10 Sep 05

Stepped out of our house, looked up, and there was a giant flying gecko over the park! A kite festival happening not 100 metres from our home, and we didn't even know about it! Well, of course we checked it out, and I have the pics to prove it!

02 Sept 05

Finally catching up again. Added 4 new pages: Masham Yorkshire Day; Whitby day trip; Scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry at Richmond Castle; and Archaeology Day at Rieveleaux Abbey.

09 July 2005

Wow, been a while! We went to Scotland in mid-June, this time to enjoy the Isle of Skye and some of the northwest coast. Also added a Falconry demonstration and the 4th of July fireworks. Also added two pics to Meeps Page. Enjoy!

14 April 2005

Last weekend, we drove the circle which goes up to Pateley Bridge, across past Stump Cross Caverns to Grassington, and down near Skipton. At Gouthwaite Reservoir, very close to the Caverns, we found some very cute little lambs playing.

09 April 2005

Added a search function to the page template, and updated the banner accordingly. It's not a great search, but better than nothing at all, I hope. I also added a robots file for the spiders (it just tells the search engines which pages to ignore), and you should see Rudy as my site icon now.

06 April 2005

I've made some changes to the stylesheet, so that the pages should appear better at 800x600. Please feel free to email me, using the link at the bottom of any page, if you have any problems.

04 April 2005

Went to London again last week, for another class (this time, Javascript).

27 March 2005

Added a couple of videos to Meeps Page.

We went down to the Stray today, and took some photos of the crocuses.
I also updated and added a few files to the downloads page. Nothing exciting though, unless you're a Firefox fan.

25 February 2005

Being a bit better, got back from London this afternoon and I'm already posting pictures!

20 February 2005

Well, Dreamweaver blew up before I could complete some updates, but I've reloaded it and have finished adding Wales, Jan 05 to my collection. My site is now over 600MB, might need to clean stuff up before too long...

Also added Skipton Castle (Jan 05), and updated the England and Historical Sites start pages.

16 February 2005

We went to Paris this weekend, just put the pictures up using the new template. Also updated all the Europe pictures to use the new template.

04 January 2005

Spent the New Years Eve weekend in Scotland, celebrating Hogmanay in a small town called Crianlarich.

29 December 2004

Took a css class in mid-December, applying what I learned to this site - slowly, and with a certain amount of pain. This page now is attached to the new template, and thus like the homepage and test pages, may look weird without notice. Apologies if you happen to be surfing these pages when this happens!

05 November

Added pictures from the Pony Trek Elizabeth and ISun, 27-Sep-2009 8:38 PM

Very neglectful. There's more Scotland pictures to put up. Good news is, I've stuck a couple of homemade videos on the Scotland page.

01 September 2004. Added templates to the new Scotland June 04 pictures, and added comments to the last two pages.

25 Aug 2004

Decided to try something different. Since I seem to have trouble completing pics for large trips, I've decided to stick up basic pages, sometimes with all the pics I'm keeping (instead of a subset limit of 5 webpages) until I can finish the full pics, complete with comments. So, Scotland is finally up, only the last two pages are missing comments, and I've stuck up all 194 pictures from last weekend's Edinburgh Tattoo, including some panoramas.

25 Aug 2004

The old, webmasters.com guestbook kept breaking, so I've gone back to Dreambook to host it.

14 August 2004

Finally posting some pictures taken with my new Nikon Coolpix 8700 digital. VERY nice camera. These first images are from Fountains Abbey, which we visited today.

27 July 2004

Added a pic to Meep's page.

15 July 2004

Ok, still no Scotland pictures, but I'm getting there. I've put up some pictures from this year's Great Yorkshire Show.

04 July 2004

OK, so I'm slacking. Still working on the Scotland photos. I did put up today's 4th of July celebration pictures, though.

23 June 2004

11-17 June 2004, we went to Scotland. Two days in Ballachulish, four in Craobh Haven, a tiny marina south of Oban, on Scotland's western coast. I took close to 500 pictures over that vacation, and am working daily to pare them to a reasonably postable number, plus put in all the usual comments. I *will* be posting these pics, and maybe a movie or two from the camcorder, but it may take a bit.

06 June 2004

We walked miles and miles around York yesterday, including a good bit of the city's famous wall.

29 May 2004

We had a very long day yesterday, rising at 5:30 and not arriving home until close to 10pm (and it was still light!). We visited Brough Castle, Caerlaverock Castle, Lanercost Priory, and Hadrian's Wall.

28 May 2004

Posting How Stean Gorge and the Muker walk from last weekend. Tomorrow we may visit Caeverlock Castle and various locations along Hadrian's wall.

25 May 2004

Posted a brand new Meeps Page and Meep's Second Page, with Never Before Seen Images :) Still have to post the images from this weekend, of How Stean Gorge and our walk near Muker, in Swaledale (we had another beautiful weekend).

18 May 2004

Spent some time converting some of the old site's webpages: Australia, New Home, Australian Birds, and Anzac Hill.

17 May 2004

The weather has been absolutely wonderful! We had another beautiful weekend. On Sunday we walked around Grimwith Reservoir, which is just past Stump Cross Caverns before you get to Grassington.

08 May 2004

Adding Byeland Abbey to the History pages. Fixed Europe, Germany and Paris. I'll continue working on integrating the "oldsite" (Australia) pages into the greater web. If you find any more pages with broken links, please let me know via the 'webmaster' link at the bottom of every page.

01 May 2004

Another nice day in North Yorkshire. This time we visited Byeland Abbey and the Kilburn White Horse. I'll try to get the Byeland pictures up tomorrow, but they require more comments and it just became 02 May 2004...

30 April 2004:

Uploading the Nidderdale -> Buttertubs Pass -> Swaledale pictures from last weekend. Still working on fixing broken links in other parts of the site.

27 April 2004:

Work continues on the broken links. England wasn't all fixed, but it should be now, as should History. Still have to do Europe.

25 April 2004:

Apologies for the broken links all over the site. I'm working on fixing them, I think England and America should all be fixed now, I'll finish with History soon and then fix Europe. The problem is that as I've been rearranging the folder structure and making the foldernames all lowercase, it's causing a conflict between the way Windows sees the files and the way the Unix-based web server sees them. In short, Windows doesn't care if there's capitals in the word, so Dreamweaver doesn't tell me there's broken links - but Apache (the unix webserver) does, and so all the links are broken. Because Dreamweaver isn't seeing them as busted, I have to fix each link - which is three per thumbnail - manually. I'm workin' as fast as I can :)

We went back through Wenslydale and Swaledale again yesterday, it was a much better day and I remembered all the camera bits. As soon as I finish fixing what's broke, I'll put up some new pictures...

10 April 2004:

Came to the realization yesterday that I'd never put up the trip we took up the Blue Ridge Parkway just before PCSing. Did that today. We took a day trip up Wenslydale, over the Buttertubs Pass, and back along Swaledale, but because I'd somehow forgotten to put the CF card back into the camera, I don't have any pictures to put up on the site, yet. I did pick up a throwaway camera, but of course the pictures, scanned, won't be very good quality. And who knows when I'll get the film developed?

09 April 2004:

I've been redoing the areas in "America" to make them less daunting: I figure 10+ pages is fairly daunting for anyone to plow through, even on a broadband connection. So the new site rule is: No more than 4 or 5 pages per event/vacation. To that end I've completed the rework of the Cross Country pictures, and am working to get them uploaded now. Since I'm in the process of reorganizing the file structure as well, you may find pages or links temporarily broken. I'd appreciate it if you'd send me a note if you find broken links; I may not know about them. I'm also working on replacing the navigation bar with dropdown menus, courtesy of the freely available 'coolmenu4' javascript.
