The water color is caused by suspended rock flour from glaciers. It's
very chalky looking here, but some of the lakes, as you will see, take
on a beautiful blue color from the same rock flour. |

Most of the rivers, instead of having a clearly defined path surrounded
by flood plains, have wide gravelly beds, with the "braided" river making
its way through. This is probably due to spring flooding, which would
carry snowmelt from high in the mountains. |
