After a bit of a steep climb, we found we had this intimidating
staircase to ascend, to get to the Sacre Coure (Sacred Heart Basilica).
These stairs are fairly famous. If you've ever seen the Bill Murray
movie, the Razor's edge, you've seen these stairs.

This is a view of Sacré-Cour (Sacred Heart) basilica. The basilica
is at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in
Paris.
The basilica was constructed in the nineteenth century, and was
criticized by some as the time as gawdy, but it is now a fixture
in Paris, and commands wide views of the city below.
The interior of the basilica is magnificent, but photography is
not allowed. You are herded on a one-way track through a lefthand
door, around the basilica, and out the righthand door, not coincidentally
past two stores within where you can buy souveniers and religious
stuff. It doesn't cost to go in, but if you want to light a candle
and make a prayer, it'll cost you - 2 euro for a tealight and
10 euro for a pillar. This bothered me for some reason, that the
masses get in for free, but the religious must pay to pray.

View of Paris from the Sacré-Cour (Sacred Heart) basilica. Not
a particularly clear day, and there's quite a few people here
already, considering it's before 10am on a Sunday morning. Maybe
they're all going to church?

Of course, what comes up must go down. The other set of stairs,
with the chairlift not very visible to the left.

The first set of stairs again, from a bit further back down the
road - from next to the little wine-and-cheese corner store where
I purchased two bottles of water for the return journey.
