Kirkstone Pass

Unfortunately, my camera battery ran out at Castlerigg, and I neglected to bring the other one, so had to finish up my pictures with a one-use camera, and then scanned to CD, which is my excuse for these truly poor-quality images.

Anyway, we saw a sign out of Ambleside that said "Kirkstone Pass" and took it. We then saw a sign that identified the road as "The Struggle". We soon found out why. It's not for the faint of heart or large of vehicle! VERY narrow, twisty and steep, it was quite the challenge (I loved it!).

Page 2 contains images from our second journey, taken with my trusty Nikon.

This would have been a beautiful view looking up the Struggle to the inn at Kirkstone Pass, with my camera. The inn is the white specks just above and to the right of the tree.

A view of the Struggle, looking back the way we came. The red circled signs indicate that the width limit of the road is 6'6" wide. They mean it too!

View of the sign warning about the struggle (I blew it up a bit, tho it's still not clear). Can't remember the exact gradient, I think it says 19% (trust me, it was steep!). 2.0m/6'6" width. Of the road. Makes passing interesting.

The Inn at Kirkstone Pass. I imagine it has been a welcome sight for generations of hikers and travellers.
