"James Herriot's" Surgery

Herriot's real name was Alf Wight. As one who grew up with his books, this little museum was quite interesting. Although I took no pictures, the upstairs rooms were full of the old, sometimes scary-looking instruments the vets of Alf Wight's day would have used daily. I actually met his son once at his newer practice on the edge of town.

The long back garden. This has been changed a lot from the original - before they started work, we wandered through the alley to the left of the white doors, and looked in. Behind us used to be the stable and pig shed, but it's all gone now.

I'm not sure if the religious look is intentional, but this is actually the operating room. The "cross" is actually a stand. This is a very small room.

The sitting room. That's a wax model, not a real person.

The practice's front door. I believe the signs have been replaced - this isn't quite as I remember it before they began work.
