THAT was AWESOME!
Threw my full Western gear on Missi today, and put her through her paces in the rodeo arena. I had SO much fun. Nice smooth slow jogs, and that feeling I've always remembered but haven't duplicated on many horses, of just gently asking and getting a nice canter depart from a walk. Like, Picking up the front end, and having the haunches move underneath into a smooth depart.
Oh, and some gallops, sliding stops, and spins. Woohoo!
She's rusty (we had a bit of a discussion about right leads), but there's an awesome horse under that moody, opinionated exterior. I think she enjoyed our afternoon as much as I did!
Missi is probably the best Western horse I've ever had the opportunity to ride. Bid sad that, but I don't care. I had FUN! She's a much better horse than I am rider: frankly, I was amazed she was actually doing as I asked. Maybe I haven't forgotten as much as I thought!
In her day job, she's a Riding for the Disabled horse, and doesn't see much action over a canter around the small RDA ring.
Maybe I'll skip work tomorrow and go riding instead :)
