Not sure what he's photographing, but we're waiting for sunset at Uluru.

... as are a few other people. This is WELL before sunset, at least an hour or more. It quickly became clear why some (like us) were wise enough to come early.
I've built a separate page for the Uluru Sunset pictures

(next morning) One of my favorite Australian flowers, the bottlebrush. No mystery why it's called that, eh?

The dining area at Curtain Springs. This was home to the founders of the station for three years.

Start of the Rainbow Valley road. It's a pretty easy 4x4 road, but the dust ruffles are pretty significant, and there's a few sandy bits.

Got a chuckle from this sign, though I know what they mean. In the US, "off-road" tends to mean "off the paved roads, onto roads that are 4WD only", so to an American, the sign's suggesting we can't go there, since that's a 4WD road...

Not-quite-classic photo at Rainbow Valley, since it's not sunset, the traditional time to take pics of this formation. In wetter times, the claypan is a shallow lake.

View of the Rainbow Valley formation from the side. The flies were pretty bad, I wished I'd found my flynet, as the smelly "rosemary and sandalwood" fly-repellent cream worked great - for about half the walk.

The claypan is like concrete right now, it's been so dry, but it's apparent this isn't always the case. Who knows how long ago this unknown visitor walked through here?

Mushroom Rock. A large chunk of the bigger formation, that fell of many, many years ago. There's actually an arch underneath it, not shown in this photo.
