Perth
We celebrated the *real* new millenium on the western edge of Australia
![]() perth001 62.66 Kb Swan Bells. Built specifically to ring in the Millenium, it opened on 10 Dec. It has a "ring of 16 bells", rung by hand. The bells are from an old church in London, England (St Thomas of the Field?). |

![]() perth009 103.49 Kb Another war memorial, or part of the background one, an eternal flame. It was a bit windy, so the flame's not terribly visible. |
![]() perth010 93.97 Kb Two lorikeets contemplating us from a tree while we waited for the Blue Cat bus. |
![]() perth011 121.82 Kb Murray Street Mall. Forest Chase is just to the right, where the vendor with the green awning is. |
![]() perth012 134.20 Kb A sculpture in Forest Chase. I quite liked this one, it is interactive. The large ball only sits on its fountain, and normally turns slowly. Way too heavy to pick up or push off, nevertheless the ball can be stopped, redirected or speeded up. Kids seem to love it. |
![]() perth013 166.60 Kb The Post Office building in Forest Chase, all decked out for the holidays. I quite liked this area, it had a very courtyard kind of feel. We ate lunch here on this day (the clock at this point is still set for Alice Springs time, it's actually 11:38). |
![]() perth014 158.15 Kb Another view of the fountain, showing the gekos around its base. |
![]() perth015 98.55 Kb I don't remember the name of this ship, but I do love tall ships. This one is at Victoria Quay in Fremantle, just down from the E Shed Markets. |
![]() perth016 75.21 Kb While we were watching the crew of the tall ship prepare to leave, this hot pink container ship entered the harbor. |

![]() perth018 45.47 Kb Towards sunset, we were in a different part of Fremantle eating dinner (fish and chips at Fisherman's Kitchen), when the tall ship sailed out into the harbor. |
